PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a knife used for a microtome and an ultramicrotome, by setting the angle between two planes, which form a share point by using silicon single crystal, to 10-70 deg.. CONSTITUTION:Silicon single crystal is cut into a parallel hexahedral block, and a plane 2 of the block perpendicular to a plane 1 is ground mechanically to form a share point. Then, the plane is polished mechanically with particulates of ''Alundum '', etc., and mechanically and chemically with colloidal silica, etc. To eliminate the breaking of the share point, chemical polishing is further carried out by using a solution which consists essentially to HNO3 and HF and contains CH3COOH as a buffer. Therefore, if the share point is broken during use, or if the cutting quality deteriorates, the share point is reproduced by the chemical polishing. |
