The invention relates to a device for limiting the opening width of windows, doors or the like, the wings of which move into the opening position under their own weight. The device has a mechanism which is connected to the suspension part, prevents unhooking or unhanging and ensures the removal of the window wing without the release of the connecting element and by means of which the window wing can be closed even when it is in a state safeguarded against unhooking. This is achieved by means of a construction, in which there are used a joint and a connecting element and a connection part located between them as well as a slot in the connecting element and a slip-through orifice which is connected to the slot and is located at the end of the slot at which the connecting element is seated, and which orifice is closed by means of a safety element.
