MANUFACTURE OF 2-CHLORO-1,3-DIMETHOXY BENZENE

An improved process for the preparation of 2-chloro-1,3-dimethoxybenzene involving the conversion of 1,3-dimethoxybenzene to [2,6-dimethoxyphenyl]-lithium and the reaction of this compound with a chlorinating agent is disclosed. 2-Chloro-1,3-dimethoxybenzene is useful as starting material for the synthesis of pharmacologically valuable 1,2-benzisoxazoloxy acetic acids.
