摘要 An internal combustion engine has at least one main combustion chamber (7), a secondary combustion chamber (14) connected to the latter by way of a transfer port (16), which secondary chamber is of rotationally symmetrical design and a spark plug (17) projecting into one end of the secondary combustion chamber (14), with electrodes (22, 23) and an ignition chamber (26) enclosing these electrodes, which has at least one ignition chamber orifice (24, 25) opening into one end of the secondary combustion chamber (14). The transfer port (16) is arranged at the other end of the secondary combustion chamber (14) so that a fuel-air mixture flowing in from the main combustion chamber (7) strikes the spark plug (17) in the form of a jet. The jet is strongly deflected by the spark plug (17) within a zone, which is only slightly greater than the cross-section of the jet. As a result, very strong accelerations act on the mixture and a partial quantity of the fuel is expelled from the mixture against the spark plug (17) and penetrates into the spark plug (17). This partial quantity increases the ignitability of the mixture which reaches the electrodes (22, 23). <IMAGE>
