PURPOSE:To realize a read system which performs multicolor reading at a high speed and at low cost, by arranging color liquid crystal, which varies in color characteristics by an applied electric signal, on the optical path between an original and a reading element. CONSTITUTION:When an original 13 is conveyed to the top surface of a platen 11, its reflected light is transmitted through and reflected by the 1st and 2nd color liquid crystals 14 and 15 and then form an image on an image sensor 17 through a lens 16. A light source 12 includes rays of light in wavelength ranges of respective colors to be read and when electric power supply from power sources 21 and 22 to the color liquid crystals 14 and 16 are turned on and off through the operation of switches 18 and 19, filter characteristics vary successively. As a result, the color liquid crystals 14 and 15 reflect only beams of light in desired wavelength ranges in the reflected light from the original 13, so that a color picture is read by the image sensor 17 on time-division basis. |
