PURPOSE: A video/audio output device for a digital television and a method thereof are provided to speedily output video/audio signals of a selected digital channel to reduce the image output time by storing video/audio PID(Packet Identifier) information per channel and periodically renewing the information while watching analog channel broadcasting. CONSTITUTION: A video/audio output method for a digital television includes the steps of storing video/audio PID information and data of all digital TV channels to a memory according to the request of a user and selecting a broadcasting channel simultaneously with searching other channels in sequence(S140,S150), determining whether video/audio PID information of the selected digital channel is stored in the memory(S160), decoding and outputting the video/audio data of the corresponding channel if stored(S190,S200), detecting and storing the video/audio PID information of the channels by demulitplexing the broadcasting signals of the selected broadcasting channel and other channels simultaneously storing the video/audio data thereof if not stored(S170,S180), and decoding and outputting the video/audio data according to the selected channel.
