摘要 PURPOSE:To enhance the strong discharge characteristic of a battery by fusing current collecting plates, which are made of plain metal plates and have lead pieces, to the upper and the lowr projections of a spiral electrode body, which includes a positive and a negative plate shifted from each other in the vertical thereby by a specific means. CONSTITUTION:A positive and a negative electrode 1 and 2 are shifted from each other in the vertical direction, with a separator 3 interposed between them, and they are coiled into a spiral electrode body. Next, a positive and a negative current collector 4 and 7 made of disk-like plain metal plates, from which lead pieces are extended, are placed on the upper and the lower projections of the spiral electrode body. After that, the electrodes 1 and 2 are fused to the collectors 4 and 7 by an arc apot welding, and the fused bode is installed into a case. The above welding is carried out by focusing arcs by securing an inactive-gas atmosphere 11 by providing a sleeve-like pressing tool 9 at the end of a torch 10. The positive electrode is a sintered nickel electrode prepared by applying an active material over a porous core metal located in the center of the electride, and the negative electrode 2 is a pasted cadmium electrode. The electrodes 1 and 2 are prepared by cutting long materials into a given dimension, and the metal core and the active material coexist in the cut section of each of the electrodes 1 and 2. As a result, the strong discharge characteristic of the battery is enhanced by making the areas of the welding parts larger than those obtained by a series spot welding.
