Increasing ignitability of pulverised low-volatile coal in burner - by addn. of a liq. or solid alcohol

The ignitability of powdered coal is increased by (a) applying a film of a liq. alcohol by dipping, spraying, etc.; or (b) mixing with a powdered solid alcohol. The ignitability of mixts. of coal with oil residues, recovered oil, oil shale and the like can be improved by adding a greater concn. of alcohol. Used for improving the usually difficult combustion of anthracite and other low-volatile coals in a pulverised coal burner.
