By means of an adjusting member (5), the phase position between the machine drive and the distribution drive of the inking unit for printing machines is adjustable. Provided on a display panel (1) are windows (23) in which a group of curves (A) provided on a support (7) are visible depending on the position of the adjusting member. Each curve of this group is assigned a particular position of the adjusting member, each curve reflecting the change in the course of density of the ink application which can be achieved in the particular position of the adjusting member.
