<p>The pre-ground bagasse is conveyed through the installation where it is soaked with water, the resulting liquor being sepd. from the bagasse. Bagasse is advanced up the tank-like trough of an inclined, scraper conveyor. The base of the trough is perforated to form a filter screen and water is sprayed continuously over the advancing bagasse. Below the filter screen is a juice reception tank in which pressure is maintained below atmospheric. Juice is taken from the tank via a degasser, partic. a cyclone. Pref. the outlet of the bagasse grinding machine is ducted into the lower end of the scraper conveyor. The duct is pref. open-topped and radiused so that rakes of the scraper convey sweep bagasse from the duct into the trough of the conveyor. The installation is for extracting juice from sugar cane bagasse so that sugar can be recovered by crystallisation.</p> |
