Process for the packaging of material to be packaged, especially foodstuffs, in foils, in which, particularly in the case of a packaging in the form of tubular bags, the lateral portions are laid round to form at least one folding line, that is to say one bend. The folding line or the bend is to be located in front of the welding seam of the open ends, so that, during a subsequent heating of the packaging together with the material to be packaged, an internal pressure which is generated cannot act or can act only slightly on the welding seams. According to a preferred embodiment, more than one folding line or more than one bend can be provided in front of the respective welding seam, as seen from the material to be packaged, in the side portions of the packaging, with the result that there is little likelihood that an internal pressure which is generated will act on the welding seams during a preserving operation, for example heat treatment. <IMAGE>
