PURPOSE:To dimerize ethylene in high activity based on catalyst, and to prepare butene-1 selectively, by using a catalyst comprising an orthotitanic acid ester through which a gas such as H2, N2, O2, etc. is previously passed and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is dimerized using a catalyst comprising an orthotitanic acid ester shown by the formula Ti(OR<1>)4(R<1> is 1-10C hydrocarbon residue) and an organoaluminum compound shown by the formula AlR3<2>(R<2> is 1-10C aliphatic hydrocarbon residue), etc. In the dimerization, a gas such as hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, helium, neon, or argon is previously passed through the orthotitanic acid ester. A molar ratio of the organoaluminum compound to the orthotitanic acid ester is 1.5-20. |
