A process for the preparation of alpha - (3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoylthio)- propionyl glycine of the formula by reaction of alpha -halogeno-propionyl glycine with alkalimetal or alkaline earth metal salts of 3,4,5- trimethoxybenzoylthiobenzoic acid or alternatively, by acylation of the glycine with an activated derivative of alpha -(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoylthio)- propionic acid.
