<p>A two-level storage system (13, 11) with an established discard protocol can be selectively enabled by instruction (33) for early discard of data from an upper level (16) either immediately or at the end of an internal predetermined subsequence of operation. Unaltered copies of data (A, C, E) in such upper level are made available for immediate discard while altered copies (B, D, F, G, H) of data are discarded or made available for discard at the end of the predetermined sequence of operations. Error conditions inhibit discarding of data.</p> |
