<p>PURPOSE:To remove the impurities from a gas composed mainly of CO and H2 and containing H2S, CS2 and COS as impurities, easily and effectively, by passing the gas through the packed layer of CaO having specific characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A gas composed mainly of CO or CO and H2, containing H2S, CS2 and COS as impurities and free from SOX is passed through the packed layer of CaO having a specific surface area of >=3m<2>/g (preferably prepared by calcining CaCO3 in an inert gas atmosphere at 700-1,000 deg.C) to effect the desulfurization of the gas. The temperature of the packed layer is preferably maintained at 300-1,000 deg.C. EFFECT:Since the desulfurization rate per unit CaO is extremely high, the packed layer has a long life as a desulfurization agent.</p> |
