Cracking test by fatigue in corrosive medium on notched sample - is used for testing materials used in marine oil-rig platforms

The appts. is supported by a rigid frame. A crank produces a reciprocating rectilinear movement which is transformed into a cyclic tractive force by a spring one end of which is connected to the crank. A chain of test-pieces has one end fixed to the frame and its outer end connected to the other end of the spring so that the cyclic tractive force is applied to the chain of test-pieces. Each test-piece is immerged in a corrosive liquid contained in a bowl. These tests develop a crack near the bottom of the notch in each test-piece due to fatigue in the corrosive medium.
