In an electrostatic sound transducer, which has two sound- permeable electrodes, between which is arranged a plastic membrane 1 coated with a conducting layer, the membrane is secured between two identical insulating surfaces 3 with oval openings. Each of the openings is coated for most of its area with a conducting layer 5, which is in contact with the conducting layer of the membrane, and a metal spacer 10 with leads. The metal spacer 10 is fixed on an insulating plate 6 and arranged about an oval metal surface 7 formed at the centre of this, which forms a sound-permeable electrode with lead 8, in whose field are located through openings. This produces an electrostatic sound transducer of simple design, protected against high voltage, and where there is a safe electrical connection to the electrodes and the membrane. The electrostatic sound transducer finds application in loudspeakers and telephone headsets. <IMAGE>
