PURPOSE:To reduce an odor and carbon monoxide generated when the combustion unit is extinguished by a method wherein a cylindrical column for enclosing the wick is arranged at a tank part for storing the lower part of the wick and a valve closely contacting with the column is arranged at the wick. CONSTITUTION:Valve 7 is arranged at a wick 2 in such a manner as it may closely be contacted with a cylindrical column 6 arranged within the tank part 1 of the wick-type petroleum combustion unit and the leading end of the valve 7 is provided with a fluororubber having a heat resistant, oil-proof and flexible characteristic and the like. When the wick 2 is descended down from A A' to extinguish the flame, an interior of the tank will be pressurized by an amount corresponding to a descended distance of the wick, and then a closed valve 7 prevents the air containing petroleum vapor in the tank from being rapidly flowed into the combustion chamber from a clearance between the wick 2 and the wick guide cylinder 4 to make a vertical flame. When the flame extinguishing hole 3a is opened at the wick guide cylinder 3, a negative pressure is produced by a piston action of the valve 7 during its descending operation, a flow rate of the cooled air is increased to provide a positive extinguishing of the flame. |
