PURPOSE:To reduce both the directivity and the anisotropy with excellent wear resistance, weather resistance and electromagnetic converting properties, by repeating the vapor deposition with which the incident angle of the steam stream of a magnetic substance is consecutively varied from a high to a low level. CONSTITUTION:The incident angle of the steam stream given from a magnetic substance evaporating source 21 is varied consecutively from a high to a low level while shifting a base film B along a cooling can 22. Thus an vapor-deposited magnetic thin film 1 is formed in a bent slant columnar structure 11. Then the same operation is repeated to obtain a vapor-deposited magnetic thin film 2 having a bent slant columnar structure 12 of the same direction as the film 1. Thus a magnetic recording medium is obtained.
