In the device, a first coordinate system (XR,YR) is placed in a picture point in the reference picture, whilst a second such system (XM,YM) is placed in the momentary picture with its source positioned in its picture points in sequence. The coordinate system is put together, and for each position a calculation is made of the distance between picture points in the momentary picture and those in the reference picture. Also calculated is the angle between the vector from the momentary picture's source to its points, and that applicable to the like configuration in the reference picture. Picture points in the sequence for which most in the momentary picture fulfil distance and angle criteria are recognised as the momentary picture pattern corresponding to the reference picture.
