A contacting device for the heat treatments of long workpieces such as wires, rods, tubes or strips by electrical contact consists of two grooved rollers between which the workpiece moves along whilst a current is allowed to flow from one to the other. One roller sits on a bearing on a straight spindle which is fixed to a support plate at the other end. The other roller sits on a bearing on a cranked spindle, with the other end also resting in a bearing. A thrust between the rollers is produced by a spring at the end of a lever, attached to a spacer on the cranked end of the second spindle. This arrangement ensures that no sparking occurs which could damage the surface of the workpiece and of the contact rollers, and results in a long life of the device. It is a simple device of high functional reliability.
