PURPOSE:To obtain a thin film magnetic head for vertical magnetic recording with excellent working properties, by using a known producing technique for a thin film magnetic head with addition of a specific working process. CONSTITUTION:A groove 6 is formed to a substrate 1 made of a magnetic material such as ferrite, etc., and a filler 7 is filled to the groove 6 to give a plane finish to the upper surface. Then a thin film coil and a main magnetic head are formed with the ordinary process, and the filler 7 and the substrate 1 are cut along the longer side of the groove 6. As a result, a finish surface 9 is obtained for a magnetic head gap part, and a lead 10 is connected to a terminal to obtain a thin film magnetic head. The magnetic flux 12 generated by a magnetic medium 11 is concentrated to an upper magnetic layer 13. The short circuit caused at the substrate 1 by the magnetic flux flown to the layer 13 can be reduced by the filler 7. Thus the magnetic flux can be flowed with high efficiency to a magnetic path that winds round a coil 2 and goes back to the medium 11 from the layer 13 through the substrate 1. |
