PURPOSE:To obtain a discharge lamp with a high efficiency and a long life by coagulating unvaporized compound, metal, and metal halogenide on the inner wall of a container under a rated dischare condition in a discharge container without providing a heater on the circumference of the outer wall of a luminous tube end. CONSTITUTION:A heater 5 at the end of a luminous tube 1 is removed, and unvaporized Sc metal and sealed metal halogenide are supposed to function as a heater, i.e., unvaporized metal and metal halogenide serve a function as a heater. Therefore, a screening effect of visible rays radiated from an arc can be suppressed to a minimum at the end of a luminous tube 1. Since the end of the luminous tube 1 is not heated compulsively from outside, the unvaporized materials are distributed and coagulated continuously and smoothly from a low temperature section to a high temperature section of the inner end wall of the luminous tube 1 depending on the temperature distribution of the luminous tube 1 and their vapor pressures. Accordingly, a desired coagulating density is realized easily, and a high efficiency and a long life of the discharge lamp are attained. |
