There is disclosed a fifth wheel trailer coupling comprising a saddle having a coupling plate 1, in which wearing members 4 are arranged on the coupling plate at least at surface regions thereof which are greatly exposed to abrasion in service. These wearing members increase the service life of the coupling plate by strengthening the regions which are exposed to considerable wear, as a result of continuous friction with the usual steel supporting plate, particularly in the vicinity of bearing pockets on the outer marginal region of the coupling plate. The wearing members are introduced into the most highly stressed regions in the top of the coupling plate, and may be cast into the coupling plate or mechanically joined thereto. The service life of the coupling plate is therefore extended, with consequent economies. <IMAGE> |
