Slotted fluid-flow dividing devices (40, 50, 60) are used in a fluid valve not only to reduce the noise but also to shift the frequency spectrum of the noise energy. The slotted devices (40, 50, 60) may be a separate structure or may be produced integrally either with the valve seat (12) or with the valve closing piece (14). In addition, the cross-sectional shape of the slots (42, 52, 62) may be changed in order to control the movement characteristic of the valve more precisely. <IMAGE>
