PURPOSE:To reduce shock of gear shift at the time of an abrupt gear shift from the second to the fourth gear speed by going through a temporary intermediate gear speed, the third gear speed. CONSTITUTION:When an abrupt gear shift is made from the second to the fourth gear speed, with engine brake functioning by kick down from high speed accelerating running of the second gear ratio, a 2-3 shift valve 190 is first set to the third gear speed condition, and a kick-down brake 14 is released and a front clutch 11 is engaged. Upon sensing the third gear speed condition, an electronic control unit 290 actuates a solenoid valve 130, and a fourth clutch control valve 230 and a 3-4 shift valve 210 are put into operation. As a result, the front clutch 11 is released and the kick-down brake 14 is engaged accomplishing the fourth gear speed. |
