<p>New polymeric prods. (I) are prepd. by reacting 1 mole of a polyoxyalkylated amine (II) with 0.5-2.0 moles of an epihalohydrin (III) at 40-150 (pref. 60-120) deg.C in the presence of an inorganic base. (II) is of formula A(R10)nRNH2 (where R and R1 are 2-10C alkylene; n is 2-50; A is NH2, 1-40C alkoxy or OCH2CBB'B"; B is H or 1-10C alkyl; B' is CH2O(R10)yRNH2; B" is CH2O(R10)zRNH2; y and z are 1-10). (III) is selected from epihalohydrines, 1-halo-3,4-epoxybutanes, 1-halo-2,3-epoxybutanes, 1-halo-4,5-epoxypentanes and 1-halo-3,4-epoxypentanes. (I) are useful as stabilisers for hydrocarbon oils (esp. fuels such as gasoline): they inhibit sedimentation and discolouration during storage while having little tendency to disperse water in the oils. They may also be useful as corrosion inhibitors, carburettor detergents, antifoulants, lubricant additives, etc.</p> |
