PURPOSE:To enable any one of a large number of compounds to be selected in accordance with the purpose and environments of use of a photographic element, by adding a novel nondiffusible compound capable of releasing a reagent for diffusion transfer photography. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer formed on a support contains in combination with the silver halide a nondiffusible compound represented by the general formula in which X1 is a nonmetallic atomic group for forming a 5- or 6-membered aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic ring represented by an aromatic hydrocarbon ring and a pyridine ring; Y is a di- or trivalent group for forming an electron attractive group, such as carbonyl, thiocarbonyl, sulfonyl, or the like; X2, X3, X4 are each H or a monovalent organic group; R1 is a divalent organic group having one C in its combination chain; m<1>, m<2> are 1 or 2; at least one of substituents combined with C of R1 and this aromatic ring, and X2, X3, X4 is a group useful in photography, such as a residue of a dye or its precursor. |
