PURPOSE:To manufacture a scanning reader of sure detection of read positions without receiving the influence of stains and the like by using position detectors provided with a space radiation signal transmitter and receiver and a scanning aid means. CONSTITUTION:Arrangement is so made that a space radiation signal transmitter and receiver for position detection that can be gripped by hand is guided and moved on a member to be read by the use of a scanning aid means. For example, the light from a light source 5 provided in a body 1 of a read section sliding on a ruler 2 is reflected by a reflecting mirror 6 provided at the end 2a of the ruler, and the reflection direction thereof is detected with line sensors 7 mounted on the body, whereby the determination of a distance X with good accuracy and ease is made possible. It is possible to achieve the similar purpose by using ultrasonic waves in place of the above-mentioned light and measuring the time required for incoming of the reflected waves. The read position is detected with high reliability with less influence of stains and the like of respective parts. |
