The automatic discharge centrifuge handles solid particle suspended in fluids or fluid mixtures. It is fitted with a skimming element for discharging the separated material. The skimmer element (16) for the discharging of the clear phase carries another smaller skimmer (23) which admits cleansing fluid to the upper part of the inner distribution space, when the skimming element (16) is in an extreme throttling position during the cleansing operation of the centrifuge. The skimmer forms an integral part of the skimming element and a gap may be provided between the two. The outlet of the skimmer is lcoated above the distributing space (18). The external dia. of the skimmer (23) is equal to the inside dia. of the skimming chamber lid (11).
