Bicycle rear light - is supplied by battery or dynamo selected respectively when bicycle is stationary and moving via automatic switch

The rear light (10) has a switch (20) allowing the current for the light to be alternately supplied via a dynamo coupled to one of the bicycle wheels. The switch (20) operates automatically to disconnect the light (10) from the dynamo and to couple it to the battery (16) when the bicycle stops moving. The switch (20) includes a switching transistor (19) and a photodetector for e.g. a photoresistance, which only causes the battery (16) to be coupled across the light (10) when it receives light rays from the lamp element (18). A deceleration switch pref. responds to the bicycle being brought to a halt. The dynamo can be used to charge the battery (16) during daylight. The light remains illuminated when the bicycle is temporarily at a standstill to improve night safety.
