Platform hoist for roll=on roll=off ship - folding uprights under top deck hatch, and hinged cover

The hinged hatch cover (22) in the vehicle deck (2) is lifted to expose a vertical hoist, with a loading platform (6) which runs up fixed supports (12) between the two decks, with the platform lifted to the level of the upper deck by folding extensions (28) for the vertical supports. The hatch cover is hinged about an axis (24) offset from the vertical supports and is raised by a hydraulic ram. The folding extension is similarly hoisted and is locked to the raised hatch cover. A folding rail (44) on the other side of the hatch opening provides a safety guide. The hoist dispenses with sloping ramps and increases the loading capacity of the ship.
