A mixing & kneading machine includes a pair of parallel rotors(2,3) rotating in opposite directions within a mixing chamber(1) defined by a casing & an end frame. Each rotor has long & short vanes(4,5), both of which extend spirally about the center line of the rotors. It is claimed that the spiral direction is selected such that the material to be mixed flows from the edges of the rotors into the central portion thereof, and a ratio of the length of the short vane to that of the long vane is selected within the range of 0.48-0.1
