PURPOSE:To obtain a mangetic alloy for the core of a magnetic head having superior wear resistance to sliding on a magnetic recording medium by adding a specified amount of a Pt group element and a rare earth element to an Fe-Si alloy. CONSTITUTION:To an Fe-Si alloy contg. 4.5-8.5wt% Si as a magnetic alloy for the core of a magnetic head are added 0.05-5.0wt% of 1 or >=2 kinds of Pt group elements such as Pt, Ru, Pd and Ir and 0.02-1.0wt% of 1 or >=2 kinds of rare earth elements such as Ce, Y, Pr and Nd or misch metal. Thus, a magnetic alloy for the core of a magnetic head having superior wear resistance during sliding on a magnetic recording medium such as a magnetic tape is obtd. without exerting influence on the magnetic characteristics, especially the magnetostriction and causing defects during casting. |
