An edible dry, friable powdered lipid composition for human or animal consumption consists of spray-dried particles each comprising blood protein, fat and/or oil, and emulsifier, the total lipid content of the composition being more than 50% by weight and preferably about 70% by weight. This spray dried product can be produced so economically that it is commercially attractive as a feed ingredients for ruminants, and satisfactory pelleted feedstuffs can be achieved having lipid contents as high as 10-12% by weight. The particle size of the product can be made so small that a high proportion of it can pass through the rumen of a ruminant animal in essentially unchanged form. Air may be incorporated into the emulsion prior to spray drying. |
