PURPOSE:To carry out surface treatment with less dimensional change and enhanced corrosion resistance by a method wherein a coating of a silane coupling agent is formed on a surface of magnesium and, by using dimer of paraxylene as a stock material, a high molecular coating is vapor deposited thereon. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of magnesium or a magnesium alloy, a silane coupling agent dissolved in methanol in an amount of about 1-5g/l is coated to form a coating of said silane coupling agent. Said silane coupling agent has a chemical formula shown by R'Si(OR)3 (wherein R and R' are functional groups shown by formulae) and, as a concrete example, there is vinyl trichlorosilane or the like. Subsequently, on the resultant coating, a high molecular coating of a compound comprising dimer of para-xylene or substituted para-xylene as a stock material is vapor deposited. A thickness of the high molecular coating is pref. about 3-7mu and a total thickness of the high molecular coating and the silane coupling agent is pref. about 10mu or less. |
