摘要 1385738 Testing pneumatic tyres PICKER CORP 25 Sept 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 44212/72 Heading B7C A tyre inspection method comprises moving the tyre into an inspection station, inflating the tyre at the station, scanning the inner surface of the wall of the tyre with a beam of penetrative radiation, and detecting the radiation passing through the wall. An apparatus for effecting the method comprises two tyre bead support members 48, 74 rotatably mounted on coaxial shafts 44, 70 and axially movable with the shafts towards and away from each other. The shaft 44 mounts, between the members, an X-ray source 121 in a housing 120 movable radially by means of a rack 122 and gear 130. An X-ray detection unit 18 is mounted on a pivoted table 160. A tyre delivered under gravity along a shoot 12 which is elevated from its illustrated retracted position is clamped between the support members and automatically inflated to, for example, 40 p.s.i. by air supplied from take 92. During the inflation, the members are moved apart slightly, and a motor 132 drives the gear 130 to advance the X-ray source radially into the tyre. The unit 18 is now moved by motor 162, synchronoulsy with rotation of the X-ray source by a motor 123, about the tyre while the latter is rotated by a motor driven roller 98, and the image of the tyre wall developed by the unit is amplified and optically transmitted to a television camera (not shown) in the unit. At each end of the arcuate path of the unit 18, the X-rays pass through the rims of the members 48, 74 and the power supplied to the X-ray source may be increased at those end positions in order to provide clearer images. The roller 98 is moved from an initial retracted position into engagement with a supported tyre by appropriate actuation of a ram 106. Coolant conduits 136 and an electric cable 140 pass through hollow shaft 44 to the X-ray source 121. To adapt the apparatus for a tyre having a larger bead diameter an annulus 170 is secured to each of the support members. The unit 18 can be moved along table 160 to vary its distance from a tyre being tested. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) the rack 122 is vertical and the detection unit is moved along an arcuate slot and in a vertical plane beneath the tyre. Reciprocable delivery and discharge shoots (202, 204) are provided.
