ANTI-INFLAMMATORY 4-PYRIDONES AND THEIR PREPARATION

Substituted pyridones of the formulae and , I II useful as antiinflammatories, are disclosed. The compounds of Formula I and Formula II may be prepared by the acid catalyzed dehydrative dimerization of acetoacetamides. Alkyl or cycloalkyl substituted acetoacetamides give 2-pyridones and aryl substituted acetoacetamides give 4-pyridones.
