PURPOSE:To reduce dispersion and perform good reproduction of less distortions and output decrease by applying bias magnetic fields in the longitudinal direction of a magnetoresistance effect element film, too, other than in the direction parallel to the short side of the element film. CONSTITUTION:The inside measurement between the mutually paralleling two sides of a core 5 of a U shape is so formed as to be made equal to the distance between both side faces of a substrate, and said core is mounted to the substrate 1 in such a manner that the inside surfaces of said two sides oppose to the side faces on both short sides of a magnetoresistance effect element film 2. A coil 51 is wound on the core 5. By the supply of DC to the coil 51, the bias magnetic field Hb'' in a longitudinal direction is applied to the film 2. Namely, the bias magnetic field Hb'' is also applied to the direction perpendicular to the bias magnetic field other than this, by which the direction of spin are aligned more in the longitudinal direction and the dispersion thereof is reduced, hence the hysteresis phenomena of an e-H curve are eliminated. As a result, at the time of reproducing the signal from a magnetic recording medium 3, distortions are extremely less and the reproduction of large outputs is accomplished. |
