The variable thrust rectangular aspect aircraft jet engine has the flaps mounted symmetrically about a middle, horizontal plane. The flaps are arranged in pairs, with main sections (1,2) converging slightly and with streamlined end flaps (3,4) to divert the thrust upwards or downwards for improved performance. The flaps lie in the outline of the engine and provide minimum drag. The main flaps are mounted on slides inclined about 10 degrees, to control the cross section of the exit duct. The pivoted flaps have tapered ends for a streamlined effect. The sliding mounting of the main flaps is protected by internal panels.
|
