<p>The invention relates to a divided combustion chamber for internal combustion engines with compression ignition or spark ignition, the (air-fuel) mixture homogenisation being improved and the controlled air movement intensified in the inlet-compression and combustion phase. The division of the combustion space into two chambers is achieved in that as the piston approaches a part coaxial with this and fixed to the cylinder head, which part has the form of a roller element and on its outside carries projections in the area of the inlet valves, an annular duct forms between the two combustion chambers, the cross-section of the duct having the contour of a convergent-divergent nozzle (diffuser). The said projections in the area of the inlet valves have the advantage both of introducing the intake flow at a tangent to the cylinder and of intensifying the controlled movement of air towards the end of the compression stroke and likewise of improving the combustion by advantageous kinetics of the flame cores.</p> |
