PURPOSE:To produce a hot rolled coil devoid of generation of cracks by a method wherein the ingot of single-phase ferritic stainless steel obtained by continuous casting is quenched in water, then it is subjected to a surface treatment in a warm condition and is immediately heated and hot rolled. CONSTITUTION:The ingot being in a red hot state after casing is quenched in water to a temperature of not higher than 450 deg.C. Next, while the ingot is in the warm condition at a temperature of 450-100 deg.C, it is subjected to the surface treatment by a grinder or the like, immediately followed by heating to a predetermined temperature and the hot rolling. Accordingly, the hot rolled coil devoid of generation of cracks and abnormality after the hot rolling can be obtained while reducing the cost. |
