<p>PURPOSE:To improve the visual recognizability of a liq. crystal cell by overcoating the surface of each electrode plate of the cell with a specified polymer film and treating the surface of the film with an aminosilane coupling agent and a vertically orienting agent to prevent the electrode part from being made prominent. CONSTITUTION:A polymer film such as a polyimide film with 1.6-2.0 refractive index is formed on the surface of an electrode plate with a patterned electrode formed, and the surface of the film is coated with N-beta-(aminoethyl)-gamma-aminopropylmethyldimethoxysilane or the like as a coupling agent, further coated with hydrocarbon alkoxysilane, hydrocarbon trichlorosilane or the like as a vertically orienting agent, and heat treated. Such two electrode plates are sealed at the peripheries, and a liq. crystal is filled. Thus, the electrodes are prevented from being made prominent owing to the refractive index difference between the electrodes and electrode substrates, the vertically orienting agent is well joined to the polymer film, and a stable clear display is obtd.</p> |
