In the manufg. process of terephthalic acid continuously by oxidation of paraoxylene in acetic acid in the presence of catalyst, mother liq. from a reactor(1) was sent to a reflux condenser(6), an absorber(2) by turns to recover the whole quantity of methyl acetate[I , sepg. terephthalic acid particles from the slurry discharged from the lower part of the reactor. I was passed to distilling apparatus to recover acetic acid in the bottom, recovering mixture of water and methyl acetate in the top of the one, which was sent to distilling column(5) to recover water in the bottom, whereas methyl acetate in the top, which was returned to the reactor.
