The oleopneumatic unit which can be fitted as a rear and/or front suspension comprises: - two identical hydraulic shock absorbers (10) each consisting of an external cylinder (12) and an internal coaxial cylinder inside which there slides a piston mounted on a stem (15) having, at its bottom end, a ball joint (16) for connection to the fork of the motorcycle; - two adjustable double-acting intercommunicating control valves (41, 41') receiving, via flexible pipes (21, 22), in one case the oil from the compression chambers and in the other case the oil from the extension chambers of the two hydraulic shock absorbers; said control valves are provided moreover with an adjustment knob (42, 42'); - a reservoir (61) for hydraulic and pneumatic compensation of the volume of the shock absorber chambers; said reservoir is separated into two chambers by an elastic and flexible membrane. With this unit it is possible to obtain spring suspensions with a variable rigidity which can be continuously adjusted according to the roughness of the terrain without the assistance of specialised personnel. <IMAGE>
