Forming pit tailings dump - uses alternate tipping in one of two areas, bulldozing, pre-compacting with empty and compacting with loaded tippers

Rail-less tipper vehicles are used for tailings deoosition, with a bulldozer used to level, and the same tippers to compact the dump. The dumping ground is divided (24) into two areas (25,26) and initial compacting is achieved by the tracks (27',28') of the empty tippers by running over the previously levelled area (26) after tipping their loads (27,28) in the other area. Final compacting is effected by the tracks (27,28) of the loaded tippers in the other area (25) previously levelled and pre-compacted by the empty tippers. By alternating this operation between the two areas, the tailings are uniformly spread and compacted.
