Corrosion-resistant sheet material is made from a layer of glass fibres impregnated with epoxy or polyester resin and coated with a blend of a powdered mineral silicate and phenolic resin. For enclosure or containment of aggressive chemicals, other than strongly oxidative acids, at service temperatures up to about 220 deg.C, i.e. above operating temperatures for conventional polyolefins but less than those which justify the performance/cost of fluorocarbon polymers or refractory metals, e.g. for use in tanneries, smoke ducts, heat exchangers etc. The composite panels may be laid up around an internal core of steel, plastic, rubber or wax, pref. are post-cured at e.g. 80 deg.C/24h.
|
