NEW MATERIAL:Substance FR-900148 (salt) whose sodium salt has the following physicochemical properties: Elementary analysis: C, 37.48%; H, 5.32%; N, 8.71%; Cl, 10.55%; Na, 7.54%. Melting point; 143-147 deg.C (decomposition). [alpha]D<25>= +77.1 deg.(c=0.75, water). Readily soluble in water; slightly soluble in methanol, etc.; insoluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, etc.; Positive to the ninhydrin, iodine and KMnO4 reactions. Molecular formula:C10H12N2O4Cl.Na.2H2O (molecular weight: 318.5 as the Na salt thereof). Color of the substance: Colorless. USE:A preventive and remedy for microbism, particularly an antimicrobial agent against Gram-negative bacteria. PROCESS:A strain of the genus Streptomyces, e.g. Streptomyces xanthocidicus No. 301 strain (FERM-P No. 4302), is cultivated in a nutrient culture medium at a temperature of preferably 30 deg.C for 50-100hr to give the aimed substance. |
