A substantially continuously selectable reduction ratio copier includes a scanning carriage assembly (12) to scan a stationary document and a lens system (16) movable on its optical axis to vary the reduction ratio. The scanning carriage is driven by a servo motor system (15, 410, 23, 70a) responsive to signals indicative of the motion of image carrier (13), for example, a photoconductor drum and signals indicative of the position of the lens system to provide controlled movement of the scanning carriage. |
