Peroxydicarbonates of the general formula R-O-CO-O-O-CO-O-R in which R is an alkyl, chloroalkyl or alkenyl group of 1-9 carbon atoms are prepared in a continuous process by reacting a chloroformic acid ester of the general formula R-O-CO-Cl with H2O2 and an acqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide at -10 DEG to 30 DEG C., wherein the major part of the reaction is effected in a first reaction zone at a pH of 8-14 with intimate mixing, the dispersion obtained is transferred to an after-reaction zone in which the reaction proceeds to completion and the peroxydicarbonate obtained is taken up in a hydrogen-free, halogen-containing solvent or a hydrocarbon or terpene that is liquid under normal conditions. |
